Gay Pride and Prejudice

“It’s funny how a single bed sums up your childhood: the ‘Goodnight’ story,
the lazy fight to keep my eyes open as the Famous Five chased the Spook Train
into the mountain; the sounds of my parents, gods of the downstairs world,
arranging the universe over gin and Tchaikovsky. Then, years later, the
daily wank, naked on the bed, eyes closed, headphones blazing Pink Floyd;
the uninhibited gasp at the end, the removal of the ‘phones, the opening of
the eyes, and the noticing of the steaming mug of coffee on the bedside table
that hadn’t been there when I started”
Michael: Diary Of A Diary

On a night out in 2007, halfway down my second glass of wine (which is the only time you should EVER make a decision), I decided that I was going to write a play. The title was the first record I ever bought which, as I have the musical taste of a seven-year-old girl, was Save Your Kisses For Me. I wanted to explore why men’s and women’s friendships were so different and what would happen when two ‘straight’ guys dropped the fake macho nonsense and admitted to loving each other.

From its modest success I became the in-house writer for Heartbreak Productions (www.heartbreakproductions.co.uk) and have since had the great fortune (and fun) to adapt many novels for the stage, including seven of David Walliam’s marvellous children’s novels. I’ve now had eighteen plays produced (including five independent plays; the latest being Gay Pride And No Prejudice at the Union Theatre, London in October 2024). I’ve also had two novels published: The Rainbow Player, the story of a gay Premiership footballer (and for which I had my favourite ever review: ‘Like Alan Bennett on Viagra’) and Diary Of A Diary: three people’s experience of depression and a diary that writes its own entries. I’m also a copywriter and have written articles for companies such as LW Theatres, for whom I also wrote the scripts to the performed tours of Theatre Royal Drury Lane and The Palladium.

Current Projects

Dancing In Time

Currently in rewrites on my new play about two very different characters finding an unexpected relationship in a prison cell. Dancing in Time will be having a performed reading in London in June 2026.

I have just finished writing my first TV series (all ten episodes!)

I've loved writing in this new genre. More news to follow.....hopefully!
